Place2Stay is a South African advertising platform for rental property and student accommodation. We connect landlords, tenants, and students. We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), and other applicable South African law.

4. HOW WE USE PERSONAL INFORMATION

4.1 What we do not use your information for
Place2Stay does not process personal information on the basis that it is acting as:
- your estate agent
- your lease administrator
- your compliance inspector
- your holder of rental deposits
Where a landlord uploads supporting compliance-related documents, Place2Stay may store and review them for platform purposes, but this does not mean Place2Stay certifies the property or assumes legal responsibility for the property's compliance.
5. POPIA GROUNDS FOR PROCESSING
We process personal information on one or more of the following lawful grounds:
- consent
- performance of a contract or platform service
- compliance with a legal obligation
- legitimate interests such as fraud prevention, support, moderation, and platform security
6. LANDLORD VERIFICATION AND DOCUMENT PROCESSING
Where a landlord uses the verification flow, Place2Stay may process documents and information for the following purposes:
- verifying the identity of the person or entity listing
- verifying that the person or entity appears to have authority to advertise the property
- reviewing supporting proof for claims or badges shown on listings
- fraud prevention
- support and account administration
- internal review, moderation, and dispute handling relating to platform use
6.1 Optional supporting documents
Landlords may voluntarily upload additional supporting documents. Those optional documents may be reviewed by Place2Stay, but they remain the landlord's responsibility and do not convert Place2Stay into an inspector, certifier, or compliance authority.
6.2 Accuracy and authenticity
Place2Stay may rely on documents provided by users for its platform processes. We may question, reject, or remove documents or claims where something appears unclear, inconsistent, outdated, or suspicious.
7. NSFAS-RELATED DATA
If a user provides NSFAS-related information, Place2Stay may process that information for platform purposes such as:
- profile completion
- matching or filtering
- landlord visibility where relevant
- support for NSFAS-related listing claims or badges
Place2Stay does not guarantee NSFAS funding, accreditation, or payment outcomes.
Place2Stay does not act as NSFAS and does not replace direct confirmation from NSFAS or an institution.
8. HOW WE SHARE PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may share personal information:
- between users where necessary for a property enquiry or response
- with service providers who help us operate the Platform
- with legal, regulatory, or law-enforcement authorities where required by law
- with professional advisers where reasonably necessary
- in connection with a business transfer, subject to lawful safeguards
8.1 Limited user-to-user sharing
When a tenant or student expresses interest in a listing, Place2Stay may share limited profile and contact details with the landlord to allow a direct response.
When a landlord publishes a listing, listing information and selected contact details may be visible to users as part of the Platform's normal operation.
8.2 No sale of personal information
Place2Stay does not sell personal information to third parties for their independent marketing use.
9. DATA RETENTION
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, subject to legal, fraud-prevention, and record-keeping requirements.
Typical retention periods may include:
- account data for the life of the account and a reasonable period thereafter
- verification documents for the period reasonably necessary for verification, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and legal compliance
- support records and moderation records for operational and legal purposes
Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information, legal obligations, and the status of the account.
10. SECURITY
Place2Stay uses reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including:

No system is completely secure. Users must also protect their own credentials and devices.
11. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
